Life is filled with choices...
Last night at work I was dwelling on the importance of making good choices and I realized there was this song playing in my head as I trudged through the slush with a mix of snow and rain falling...
"Raindrops keep falling on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Crying's not for me
Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothing's worrying me."
I decided to jot down my thoughts throughout the evening and this is what I came up with...
Rainy days can be depressing for some people. Winter can be long and depressing too. But like the songwriter says, we can't stop the rain (or snow) by complaining so why not embrace it? We have a choice. We can choose to embrace winter and look for the beauty in a blanket of freshly fallen snow, or we can grumble about winter until spring arrives.
It's your choice.
Proverbs 17:22 tells us "A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." I have some serious bouts with depression and it's tough sometimes to greet the new day with a smile as my feet hit the floor. Why would I add to my misery by complaining about something I have no control over. It's inevitable...
Canada + winter = SNOW
My challenge to you is to embrace winter. Choose to look for the beauty in the simple things, like a snow flake or frost on your window. It's amazing when you approach life like that. Children do it without any effort at all - we tend do lose the sense of wonder as we "mature".
Happy Ground Hog day :-)
